How does the gold invoice auditor work?

You enter the final price a jeweller quoted, the weight in grams and the gold purity (24K, 22K or 18K). The tool multiplies the weight by today's live metal rate for that purity to get the fair metal value, removes the 3% GST from your quote, and shows the leftover amount — that is the making charge (or premium) the jeweller is adding. It then compares that making charge against typical ranges for your item type.

What is a fair making charge on gold in India?

Making charges vary by how the item is made. Gold coins and bars carry about 2–3%. Plain, machine-made jewellery like simple chains runs about 8–12%. Handmade, intricate or bridal pieces (antique, Kundan, Polki) can legitimately reach 20–25%. That is why this tool asks for the item type before judging your quote — a 20% charge is a red flag on a coin but reasonable on a bridal necklace.

Is GST included in the making charge?

No. GST is a separate 3% government tax charged on the total value (metal + making charge). This tool removes GST first, then works out the making charge, so the two are never confused. If your bill shows GST separately, keep the 'Quote includes 3% GST' toggle on and enter the grand total.

Why is my quote higher than the rate shown on this site?

The live rate here is the indicative metal price only. Your final bill adds making charges (labour and design), 3% GST, and sometimes stone/hallmarking charges. A gap is completely normal — this tool tells you whether that gap is reasonable or excessive for the type of item you are buying.

Can I use this when selling old gold?

Accepted Answer
